They call it the city that never sleeps, and for good reason. There are countless things to do while you're in New York, so when it comes to planning your itinerary, it can feel a little overwhelming.
Here are a few things you need to make sure are on there.
Brooklyn Bridge
Obviously one of NYC's main iconic landmarks. We started off in Manhattan and walked across towards Brooklyn as we wanted to spend the morning there. The views are just amazing.
TOP TIP wake up early and head straight there at sunrise to beat the crowds. We did this on our first day and used jet lag to our advantage!
DUMBO
One of our favourite places on the trip, DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is not to be missed. We loved this neighbourhood, full of very trendy shops and cafe's - we went to Time Out Market for breakfast and highly recommend.
TOP TIP head to Washington Street for its famous view of Manhattan bridge, where you can get the icon photo.
KATZ'S Delicatessen
One for the foodies - Katz's deli is famous for it's legendary pastrami on rye. Located in the lower east side of Manhattan, it's always the first food place we recommend when we know someone is going to NYC!
It's also famous due its iconic appearance in the film 'When Harry Met Sally' - so be prepared to queue to get in but I promise it's worth the wait!
Empire State Building
Widely considered to be one of the most iconic buildings in New York, if not the world, is of course the Empire State Building. Not only is there breath-taking views of the New York skyline at the top, but we also loved learning about it on the way up. The elevator is even interactive!

230 Fifth rooftop bar
After getting the steps in all day - you're going to need a drink! There is no better place for this in NYC than 230 Fifth rooftop bar. An amazing atmosphere and cocktails sat looking out at the empire state building - what's not to love?!
We went twice on our trip, once in the afternoon and once at night, we didn't need to book and they got us seated right away.
Breakfast At Tiffany's
Do I even need to explain this one? Absolutely iconic. The experience of a lifetime at blue box cafe located on the sixth floor of Tiffany & Co's Landmark Flagship store right on 5th Avenue. This was the ultimate highlight for me.
My parents flew out to NYC to surprise us as we had just got engaged - the staff here couldn't have done enough to make this the most special of moments for us all and service was unmatched. The food was absolutely unreal - worth every penny.
TOP TIP you will need to book for this, you can book online exactly 30 days in advance right at midnight (NYC time) and hurry as spots sell out in minutes.
Grand Central Station
If you're a huge gossip girl fan like me, then this is probably already on your list! Walking in here felt like walking onto a movie set. After grabbing your photos, there are even some lovely cafes and restaurants to rest and refuel.
Yankee Stadium
I definitely recommend getting tickets to watch baseball. We got tickets to watch the New York Yankees at the Yankee Stadium in The Bronx. Even as someone who isn't a huge sports fan and knows nothing about baseball - this was so fun and the atmosphere was just amazing!
